"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents." — Emilie Buchwald

Portrait of the Authoress as a young child

When I was little my grandmother told me she was taking me somewhere special. "The library?" was my response, because to me it was the most wonderful place in the world. To this day the library is still one of my favorite places, though at home I'm running out of space on my shelves for all my books, of course!

I have always loved books, and have found that what I read as a child has new meaning to me as an adult. What I read and what was read to me had a very positive impact on what I enjoy today, and with any luck that impact can be passed on to readers of this blog both big and small.

Every week I'll be talking about a different children's book that I love, whether it's one I grew up with or one that I have recently discovered.  My hope is to bring a new awareness to books that you may not know about, and a new appreciation for the ones you do know.

I encourage anyone who reads to respond with comments, questions, or suggestions. Together we can spread the great love of children's literature everywhere!
